How is it that between the Cambodian Genocide and the Holocaust, over eight million people were killed? The Cambodian Genocide was lit up by a man named Saloth Sar, better known as Pol Pot. Hitler didn’t want to make it better for the less fortunate, he just wanted to make it better for the, already to be know as, higher class. Furthermore, the way Pol Pot and Hitler ran things were very different but in the long run, they both had the same outcome: world wide tragedy for everyone but themselves. During the Cambodian Genocide and the Holocaust, many roles of symbolization came into play. For instance, throughout the Genocide everyone was forced to wear black pants and black shirts and in the Holocaust all jews were forced to wear prisoner clothing and of course, the star of david at all times. These weren’t the only rules that were very strict. In Cambodia, if you wore glasses you were automatically death sentenced because you were considered to be different and in the Holocaust, you were refrained from wearing shoes. These harsh rules were just the begging of the torture for either countries. Throughout the course of these events, the very serious situations began to occur. In Cambodia, the torture began with labor fields, carried on with starvation and ended with execution but in the Holocaust everything was just thrown at them at once with the death camps and the gas chambers. Nobody can make any exception about not remembering the last step in the Holocaust which was the final solution. Pol Pot and Hitler had very different views on how to carry out the â€Å"organization† of things. Hitler believed that only very particular people should carry on at the death camps and the rest were thrown into the gas chambers-such as women, child, weak, and certain age groups-. Pol Pot had little stereotypes such as grouping anyone intellectual, wealthy, or high class and they were to be executed together because they were â€Å"different†. The ones that lived through that, had little hope, but still more than the ones going through the Holocaust. One more thing that was similar between the Genocide and the Holocaust was that the population decreased dramatically. In Cambodia, people disappeared daily from camps and the starvation was killing quickly. In Germany, an estimated 4,000 or more jews were killed every single day from either being murdered, freezing, or starving. These deaths were nothing to be taking lightly, yet not enough people took it serious enough. This is one of the reasons both of these events were not stopped until it was too late. The effects of both of these treacherous events were devastating. An estimated 20% of the Cambodian population were murdered throughout four years under the power of the Khmer Rouge. In Germany an estimated six million jews were murdered between the time period of 1933-1945 under the power of Hitler and the Nazis. Cubism In Art Essay In the world of art, Cubism is probably the most important art movement in the history of 20th Century Art. Cubism brought in new ways of composing pictures and also showed new ways of representing nature. New movement also brought in new attitudes towards the picture surface and the application of paint. The ideas of colour theory were all changed. This caused a liberation of these elements from a merely descriptive function have all featured in the development of Cubism. At the beginning of the first decade of this ending century two young artists emerged trying to make a name for themselves in the highly competitive Avant-Garde of Paris. One of them, Pablo Picasso 1881-1973, a young Spaniard who had moved to France had been a deliberate act of encouraging the latest developments of French paintings. The other artist was Georges Braque 1881-1963 already a vanguard of modern painting as a practising Fauve. He was experimenting with liberating colour in an attempt to be the forefront of a small Avant-Garde community. Both artists met and they developed a solution between them. Between 1909 and the outbreak of the First World War Cubism was introduced. Cubism evolved from a mixture of influences. However there were two that were of great importance. The first was a major exhibition o Primitive Art mainly displaying sculptures, totems, juju figures and ancestral figures. The work and end in its self however it was a catalyst for ideas in the future. The second influence was the work of Paul Cezanne. Hs significance for cubists was in attempting to re-establish a sense of 3D-Form in painting, which he believed impressionists had lost. In doing this he developed a theory that the entire world and everything in it could be reduced to basic forms such as cones, cylinders, spheres, cubes. The end result was a network of small marks, which broke up the surface of the canvas. This was Cezannes distinct style, the deconstruction of form, which is the key to the manner in which Cubists were to reshape Western European Art. The Aficionado painting by Picasso was an ultimate example of a Cubist picture. The fragments of this picture produce a visual puzzle. The painting is a portrait of a bull fighting fan and in the painting there are suggestions of a mouth, eyes, a wine bottle and a guitar. The Aficionado is an example of what is known as analytic Cubism, which was developed in 1911/12. 1913 was a period that Braque produced a series of paintings. These included Still life the table and Still life with a bottle of Bass. He used Cubist devices known as Tricks of the Trade in his work. During this period his work was usually refereed to as Synthetic Cubism.

To what extent do you agree? The struggle between France and England for North American sea power and colonial rule ended by the French and Indian War. The war began in 1754 in the upper Ohio Valley. Two years later, the conflict spread to Europe where it was known as the Seven Years War. One of the greatest battles of the war that practically ended Frances power in America was the English capture of Quebec in 1759. The treaty of Paris, signed in 1763, formally ended the war in America, making Great Britain master of Canada and the lands between the Appalachian Mountains and the Mississippi River. These terms ended French power in the New World and made Great Britain supreme. Although the tensions between both England and its colonies were released, there was still no acknowledgment of any severance of the colonies from England. Proceeding the war, Britain passed new Acts, which colonists regarded as, for the most part, unbearable. These new Acts and the determination for colonial independence and uniformity mad e the separation of the colonies from England inevitable. Because colonists proved resistant to British control, British policies were forced to be relaxed. Even so, the colonial assemblies reluctantly continued to respond to British needs. The British Empire was in great need of organizing. With the territorial annexations of 1763, the British Empire nearly doubled in size, making it difficult to rule. Because of this, and other factors such as Englands war reparations, it was necessary that Britain seek greater control over its colonies. English government made efforts to find a way to deal with its war debt, and their effort to do this was made through raising the already high taxes. According to Document C, this resolution caused great uneasiness and consternation among the British subjects on the continent of America. In the past, England had viewed its colonial empire in terms of trade. To prevent an escalation of the fighting that might threatened western trade, the Proclamation Act of 1763 was instituted. This prevented settlers fro m advancing beyond a line drawn along the Appalachian Mountains. In accordance with Document A, this line was established to keep colonists from infringing upon Native American lands. The Proclamation Act regarded Englands most important markets and investments, which were located east. British controlled colonist movements westward in order to modify the eastern population to benefit Britains markets. The Proclamation Act of 1763 was one of the first instituted acts passed By England. As the years progressed, new Acts were passed by Great Britain to establish more control over the American colonies. Among these, the Stamp Acts was passed by the British Parliament in 1765 to raise revenue, requiring that stamps be used for all legal and commercial documents, newspapers, etc. in the American colonies. John Dickenson of Document I made clear that authorities impose duties on the colonies for the single purpose of levying money. In March 1766, it was repealed because of strong colonial opposition. This step, however, was accompanied by a Declaratory Act setting forth Parliament's supreme power over the colonies in matters of taxation as well as in all other matters of legislation (Document E). Britain was only adding insult to injury by the creation of new acts because colonists began to adopt the idea of no taxation without representation (Document D). The reason that the colonies were able to separate from England was because of confidence and determination. Originally, the colonies were not strong enough to function on their own as an individual country, and the aid of Great Britain was essential. Document H states that without being incorporated, the one [country] must necessarily govern; the greater must rule the less. The extreme acts passed by Britain are what pushed the colonists over the edge.
